Engineering Operations Lead

About the Role:

As an Engineering Operations Lead, you will play a crucial role in optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of our engineering department by focusing on key operational functions. You will be responsible for streamlining and automating processes, managing resources, and ensuring our engineering teams have the support they need to excel. This role is less focused on day-to-day project management and more on the underlying operations that enable engineering success. You will report to the Senior Manager Project Management Office and work closely with engineering leaders and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Acquisition Integration:
  • Facilitate the integration of acquired engineering teams and processes into our existing operations.
  • Coordinate the alignment of tools, systems, and workflows to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Support communication and change management activities related to acquisitions.
  • Access Management:
  • Operationalize and maintain access management processes for engineering resources, including software, systems, and facilities.
  • Manage the onboarding and offboarding of engineering personnel, ensuring appropriate access is granted or revoked in a timely manner.
  • Process requests for interim access adjustments based on project needs and security protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with access management policies and procedures.

Facilitate Consistent Use of Operational Tools

  • Understand implementation and usage across Engineering of tools like Jira, ADO/GitHub and LinearB.
  • Work with each product development team to create consistency in process and best practice for the use of our tools.

Domain List Management:

  • Work with DevOps and Engineering Leadership to manage and maintain engineering-related domain lists (e.g., software repositories, build servers) to ensure proper access control and organization.
  • Implement and enforce policies related to domain list usage and governance.
  • Vendor Account Optimization:
  • Work with DevOps and Engineering Leadership to manage and optimize vendor accounts related to engineering software, hardware, and services.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate vendors, negotiate better terms, and reduce costs.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Capitalization Reports Management:
  • Work with product teams, Accounting/Finance and Engineering Leadership to manage the process of creating and maintaining capitalization reports for engineering projects.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of engineering labor and expenses for capitalization purposes.
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to comply with reporting requirements.
  • Policy and MiSOPs (Management Information Standard Operating Procedures):
  • Develop, document, and maintain new engineering policies and MiSOPs.
  • Update existing policies and MiSOPs to reflect changes in processes, tools, or regulations.
  • Manage the publishing and distribution of policies and MiSOPs to ensure they are easily accessible to engineering staff.

Annual SOC II Audit

  • Help Product teams prepare for and provide evidence for annual SOC II audit.
  • Identify improvements that will make evidence collection easier each year.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering environment, with a focus on operations.
  • Strong understanding of engineering operations, workflows, and best practices.
  • Proficiency with the tools used by Engineering teams to build enterprise software including experience administrating tools like Jira or ADO/GitHub.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, BI tools).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools and their application in optimizing operations.
  • Experience with vendor management and contract negotiation is a plus.
  • Experience with asset management best practices is a plus.
  • Experience with SOC II compliance and audit procedures is a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
